Vehicle type:
Any 1980 or newer stock hardtop automobile, including Station Wagons, but
not including Hearses, Trucks, Jeeps, Limos, Checkers, Chrysler Imperial
or All Wheel Drives (4x4).
Same Rules Apply for Old Car Derbies
Mini Cars:
All rules for mini cars are the same except:
01 - Must have 104” wheelbase or less. This includes Station Wagons.
02 - Must have 4 or 6 cylinder engine.
03 - Stock gas tank must be removed and boat tank installed and securely
fastened.
04 - No Four Wheel Drive Vehicles of any type.
05 - No Truck Springs. Only Five Springs (5) Allowed. No Clamping,
Taping, etc.
Car Preparation:
All Glass (Windshield, Headlights, Tail Lights, Side Glasses), Plastic
Grills and Chrome must be removed (not broken out). You will no be
allowed to strip car on fairground property.
Frames:
No reinforcements, No Trailer Hitch, No welding on frames whatsoever, No
skid plates, No towing packages, Motor must be within 4 inches of stock
location, Headers must point up or down.
Bumpers:
Bumpers are interchangeable. Bumpers must be no higher than twenty-two
inches (22”) from bottom of bumper to ground and no lower then sixteen
inches (16"). Must have automotive bumper on car. no home made bumpers)
No reinforced bumpers no adding metal, Chains or wire allowed around
bumpers in 4 spots only, wire can be no more then three (3) strands per
spot. Must use automotive brackets, bolts and shocks. You may collapse
shocks and push into frame, weld them on good (No more then Ten Inches
(10") from front of frame to back of brackets) but do not add metal and
do not weld top frame seam . No welding plates or straps from the bumper
to the trunk lid.
Body:
Body bushings may be removed but must have a spacer between the body and
the frame. Body bolts may be changed but must use bolts no larger than
5/8" with flat washer no larger than 3” across and ¼ inch thick you
are allowed 1 extra pair of body bolts. Trunk must remain 50% in
stock location. No wedging, and no crushed roofs. No screws allowed.
Doors:
All doors must be fastened shut by wire, Chains or Welding. Welded straps
no wider then 2 inches. No reinforcements on outside of doors. You are
allowed a 4 point safety cage. No part of the safety cage can touch
frame. See reinforcement rule for sizes.
Hood and Trunk Lids:
Trunk may be welded solid no wider then 2 inches and secured in 5 spots
by 5/8 inch thread rod (body bolts) 1 of which can only be sheet metal
to sheet metal. Or you may secure using Chain 5 spots or Wire 3 strands
in 5 spots. Hole must be cut in hood and trunk fourteen inches in
diameter for inspection purposes. Hood can only be secured in
4 places, ( 2 from the core support and 2 more of your choice) Angle iron
welded to inside fenders for the purpose of securing the hood can be no
longer then 3 inches. Car must have hood unless fan is removed. Must have
2 14 inch holes cut in hood for inspection. Cut outs may be secured with
3 3/8 bolt & washers
Tires:
Fenders may be cut for tire clearance and you may add 3 3/8 inch
bolts and washers to cut out, No Screws! Automotive rear-end only and
must have no more then 5 lug nuts. We do not want flats we want a show!
Valve stem protectors are ok unless deemed a hazard to the fans, use
common sense.
Suspension:
No welded shocks, reversed spring shackles or over-inflated air shocks.
No blocking of springs. Car must be of reasonable height; 22” from bottom
bumper to ground or lower. All cars must have suspension and be ale to
move up and down (bounce). No leaf conversions.
Fuel:
Fuel tank must be in rear floor location and properly secured. Under no
circumstances will fuel tank be allowed in driver’s front. All stock fuel
tanks must be removed. Electrical fuel pump must be wired into vehicle
ignition switch so pump will shut off when engine is shut off. Fuel lines
must be connected to tank by fittings and hose clamps. No taping of fuel
lines is allowed. No more than five gallons of gas will be allowed.
Fuel cells and boat tanks only.
Batteries:
All batteries must be solid mounted in front passenger compartment and
properly covered.
Radiators:
All radiators must be in stock location. No reinforcements in front or
above radiator. No extra radiator or water supply. Core support may use
up to 1 inch all thread and may go through the frame and up through the
hood..
Brakes:
All cars must have brakes before beginning competition.
Reinforcement:
You are allowed a 4 point safety cage and a roll over bar. No braces can
touch frame. And no bar or pipe can be larger then 6 inches. The door
bars may not extend more then 10 inches past the drivers door, if they do
bring a torch as you will be made to cut them.
Safety Rules:
Safety belt, D.O.T. approved helmet with shield or safety glasses must be
used. Drivers must stay in car with arms, legs and head inside at all
times. Window net recommended.
No hitting in driver’s door. Hitting in driver’s door presents the
possibility of someone being seriously hurt. Hitting in driver’s door
will result in DQ. Do not use your drivers door as a shield as we will
not count those and only increases your chance of injury. If driver’s
door comes open during heat the driver will be DQ. Nobody under 14 years
old allowed in pit area.
All drivers must be Sixteen or older to drive. No hot dogging in pit area
will be allowed. Only Drivers Allowed In Ring While
Derby Is In Progress.
Driver Will Be DQ If His/Her Fans Refuse To Comply.
General Rules:
01 - All drivers must attend drivers meeting.
02 - All feature winner cars are subject to re-inspection.
03 - Drivers may move forward and backward. Aggressive contact must be
made with an “Active Car”. Playing Possum will be grounds for DQ.
04 - Driver whose engines die or who do not move for one minute will be
DQ.
05 - Any car catching fire is automatically DQ.
06 - In the event of a roll-over car will be inspected for safety and may
continue if deemed safe and able.
07 - Any car with two wheels out of ring is DO.
08 - The final three cars must swap licks. Two cars cannot pick on one.
No tapping. Drivers doing any of this will be warned one time by
officials stopping the Derby. “Fans come to see a show. The better show
we have, the more fans will continue to support the sport.”
09 - There will be no refunds.
10 - Refusing to obey orders of B&M Motorsports officials will be cause
for DO.
11 - Only drivers or
owners will be allowed on track. Competitors are not employees of the
track, Fair Association or B&M Motorsports. No non-participants (wives,
children, friends, etc.) will be allowed in pit area unless insurance
release forms are signed. No alcohol allowed. You will be DO.
Competitors signing insurance release forms and entry forms acknowledge
these rules and agree to abide by them. B&M Motorsports reserves the
right to add or delete rules for safety, etc., depending on track or
area. All decisions of Derby officials are final.
12 - All cars will be ready
when called or we go without you. Sorry, but we must keep show going.
13 - Fire Extinguishers
highly recommended.
14 - Patching a prerun
car is allowed, must us only 3” by ¼ inch 2 spots front, 2 spots back 1
side of frame only! Do not wrap frame as we want to be able to see why
patch was applied.
15 - No distributor
protectors allowed.
16 - A Gas Tank
holder/protector will be allowed no bigger then 3 inched from each side
of standard tank and no closer then 4 inches to back seat support.
No Exceptions, we will not allow you to run a large kicker box in the
back seat.
